Rising Up is a public/private partnership launched by Mayor London Breed in support of the broader city-wide goal of reducing homelessness for youth ages 18-25 by 50% by 2023, ultimately assuring that homelessness for young people is rare, brief, and one-time.

In December of 2020, Rising Up received a generous gift of $12.5M from Joe Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb. This gift will enable the Rising Up community partners to expand and sustain Rising Up through the provision of additional housing subsidy slots and problem-solving efforts. Based on an evaluation of our work to date we are supplementing our programming and considering adjusting the budget to support these changes. We anticipate additional public funding support and will be actively outreaching to other philanthropic community leaders to help us close the gap on private funding.

On any given night in San Francisco, nearly 1,200
young people age 25 and under go to sleep
without a place to call home.
