Rising Up is a first-of-its-kind effort in San Francisco to prevent and end youth homelessness through a coordinated response system. Those who participate in the full program benefit from its unique subsidy and incentive model. Once accepted to Rapid Rehousing, youth receive up to $27,000 in rental subsidies over three years. Each young person works with their case manager to assess and set their personal contribution level and subsidy amount. Youth who have been in the program for a year or more and who have managed their money carefully with the support of financial counseling, are eligible to receive an incentive of up to $7,500 if they transition off the subsidy early.

“Rising Up exists to leverage the unique resilience of young people and provide life-changing support at a critical juncture. When we intervene at this early stage to prevent and stop homelessness, we are breaking the cycle of poverty.” – Sherilyn Adams, Executive Director, Larkin Street Youth
